Mix Nine

VibeRide's ninth mix is complete and has just been released for your listening pleasure. Our latest offering is a heady mix of some real dance-floor funk tunes coupled with a few smooth grooves to ever so slightly chill to.

For the first time we draw on the considerable musical talents of Herbie Hancock and the Stovall Sisters; and also Michael Jackson for the first time since our MJ special.

Here's the tracklist:

1). Prince - 'Let's Work (dance mix)' - from the album 'Ultimate Prince'

2). Diana Ross - 'I'm Coming Out' - from the album 'Ultimate Collection'
3). Maceo Parker - 'Maceo's Groove' - from the album 'Funkoverload'
4). Level 42 - '(Flying On The) Wings Of Love' - from 'The Ultimate Collection'
5). Incognito - 'Where Do We Go From Here' - from the 2003 album 'Positivity'
6). Michael Jackson - 'Burn This Disco Out' - from the 1972 album 'Off The Wall'
7). Roy Ayers - 'Tongue Power' - from the '76 album 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine'
8). The Emotions - 'Best Of My Love' - from the album 'The Best of...'
9). The Stovall Sisters - 'Hang On In There' - from 'What It Is Funky Soul & Rare Grooves
10). Herbie Hancock - ' I Thought It Was You' - from 'The Best Of Herbie Hancock - The Hits'

Half of the tracks in this mix are over five minutes long and two are over 8 minutes, so it's pretty unlikely you'd ever hear a mix like this on a radio station. One of the great things we love about producing this podcast is that we get to share superb music with our listeners that ordinarily (and tragically) wouldn't see the light of day on commercial stations.

The show kicks off with an extended mix of Prince's 'Let's Work', which has all the classic Prince elements to it and would be a floor filler on any given night. What follows is another floor filler performed by Diana Ross, but the music and production on the track is all, unmistakably, Nile Rodgers of Chic.

Level 42 pop up in this show and it's the first time we've had something from them since Mix Three. It's a really nicely crafted piece of music this one and I just love that bass work from Mark King. Incognito's 'Where Do We Go From Here' is one of my personal favourites and I never tire of hearing it. Great production, beautiful vocals and so very catchy. Classic Bluey. Classic Incognito.

Mix Nine also features 'Burn This Disco Out' from MJ's 'Off The Wall' album, which to me is one of the greatest music albums of all-time. There, I said it.

There's yet another great song from Roy Ayers along with some great foot-tapping tracks from the Emotions and the Stovall Sisters. That's Mix Nine. Enjoy.
