GigSpot: recommendations

Dates for your diary

Vibe Ride recommends the following gigs (we've put our money where our mouth is and already have our tickets!).

22nd August: Incognito featuring special guests including Jocelyn Brown at IndigO2 at the O2 London

4th September: Chic at HMV Forum London

Roy Ayers and Chic are both playing at Camp Bestival in Dorset

We will keep our eyes peeled for any more tours you might be interested in but would love recommendations from you. We would love to hear about bands and artists, old and new, that you feel fit in with the Vibe Ride philosophy of classic funk sounds. We promise to look into every recommendation. Music is a gift and we believe it is something worth sharing.

Michael Jackson concerts at the O2

You will see that Vibe Ride's second ever podcast was a tribute to a true music genius and one-time funk legend, Michael Jackson. We had tickets to see him perform at the O2 in July, floor seats in section B (right near the front) and we were really excited to have that chance. We are genuinely sad at the loss of a truly great talent. A man whose singing ability at the age of ten is still unbelieveable to see; even Smokie Robinson agrees! He could sing, he could move, man could he move; but he also had vision. He envisioned truly amazing pop videos when no one else had really caught on to the idea. He continued to innovate, he never stayed stuck in the past. We had a couple of hours of music for the podcast that we decided to cut down to one hour. We wanted to honour the classic funk edge that he had to a lot of his work, even into the 1980s (and I would argue into this millenium in the form of 'You rock my world' from 2001 but that hit the cutting room floor!). We hope you enjoy the familiar songs and perhaps a couple of less familiar ones. All classics that make you want to dance. A fitting tribute. Anna

Not much to say, except that I believe it would have been a truly memorable show. I mean c'mon, this is Michael Jackson for goodness sake. I hope the rehearsal footage that is due to be released at some point is good enough to give us a good idea of what the show would have been like. I hope it does him justice. He deserves it. Gary
