Mix One

Welcome to the VibeRide blog. Here you will find detailed track listings for each show and information about the music and musicians that feature. The VibeRide podcasts are a series of dynamic mixes of the most incredible funk and jazz-fusion from the last four decades, designed to get you feeling happy and get your body moving. 98% funk, 2% jazz is the way we do it.

VibeRide Mix One is now available. Here's the track list:

1). Prince - 'Get On The Boat' - from his 2007 album '3121'
2). Roy Ayers - 'Love Will Bring Us Back Together' - from his 1979 album 'Fever'
3). Con Funk Shun - 'Too Tight' - from their 1980 self-titled album
4). Cameo - 'It's Serious' - from 'Cameo Gold (Remastered)' 2005
5). Gap Band - 'Open Up Your Mind (Wide)' - from 'Gap Band (The Best Of)' 1994
6). Stevie Wonder - 'Higher Ground' - from his 1973 album 'Inner Visions'
7). Luther Vandross - 'She's A Super Lady' - from his 1981 album 'Never Too Much'
8). Maceo Parker - 'Got To Get U' - from his 1992 live album 'Life On Planet Groove'
9). The Commodores - 'Hold On' - from their 1975 album 'Movin' On'

For the first show I had to bring out the big guns and for me what these nine tracks have in common is not just the incredible music quality, but also the vibe they exude. Not to mention the fact that these tracks have some of my favourite basslines, notably 'She's A Super Lady', a track I was fortunate enough to discover a few years back.

The Gap Band song on this mix is one I have played so much at home it is ridiculous (and I'm still not tired of it). Nothing you can say about Stevie Wonder that hasn't already been said and surely not many people can listen to 'Higher Ground' and not feel inspired. Maceo Parker's album 'Life On Planet Groove' is simply fantastic and every jazz-fusion/funk lover should have this album.

And finally, I must mention the very last track on this mix because it is RARE. The album 'Movin' On' is harder to track down than Osama Bin Laden and you can forget about getting it on CD. Lucky for me, a very good friend of mine (who taught me everything I know about funk) has the album on cassette - yes, cassette. I borrowed it and duly did the right thing by preserving it in digital form. Possibly a crime, but definitely one worth doing time for.
