Mix Six

We're delighted to bring you Mix Six, which is now available to listen to right here or to download via i-tunes, or by whichever method you prefer.

We've still got tonnes and tonnes of funkalicious music to bring you - and we're discovering 'new' stuff all the time.

Here's the tracklist for VibeRide Mix Six:

1). Prince - '1+1+1 is 3' - from his 2002 album 'One Night Alone...live!'
2). Chic - 'Le Freak' - from their 1978 album 'C'est Chic'
3). Commodores - 'Gimme My Mule' - from their 1975 album 'Movin' On'

4). The Emotions 'I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love' - from their 1976 album 'Flowers'

5). Patrice Rushen - 'Forget Me Nots' - from her 1982 album 'Straight From The Heart'

6). Tower Of Power - 'Just Enough And Too Much' - from their 1975 album 'In The Slot'

7). Con Funk Shun - 'Get Down With It' - from their 1973 album 'Organized'

8). Clarence Carter - 'Snatchin' It Back' - from 'What It Is! Funky Soul & Rare Grooves'

9). Jamiroquai - 'If I Like It, I Do It' - from his 1993 album 'Emergency On Planet Earth'

10). Earth, Wind & Fire - 'Kalimba Story' - from their 1974 album 'Open Our Eyes'

11). Roy Ayers - 'Sweet Tears (disco version)' - from 'Destination Motherland' (best of) 2003

This mix comes to life with one of my all-time favourite live tracks from Prince. This performance is a good example of Prince's fine guitar work (which is often underrated), but also what a masterful showman he is and how he is able to whip the crowd up into a frenzy.

After seeing Chic perform live recently we had Chic running through our minds all week and so just had to throw in one of Nile Rogers' signature tunes.

This mix has another funk-laden gem of a track from that oh-so-rare Commodores album 'Movin' On' - you really are lucky people to be hearing anything from this album - trust me! But I'm only too glad to share it. It's only what the album deserves. There's also two gorgeous tracks from The Emotions and Patrice Rushen back-to-back. I just love the care-free essence and tight production on these.

Our two newcomers to VibeRide on this mix are Tower Of Power and Clarence Carter, the latter being one of the gems on a great compilation album I found (see track listing). Tower Of Power were prolific all the way through the seventies, but then trailed off through the eighties and nineties to a degree. They produced some good stuff back then and I've several more tracks from them that you'll hear at some point. So that's Mix Six, enjoy.
