Even though we've brought you nearly six hours of classic funk and jazz-fusion already, we're still dropping new artists and outfits into the mix. This time in the form of Don Blackman, The Fatback Band and Slave. The former is a little known act and was recommended to me by a friend who knows his funk and jazz-fusion like the back of his hand. The Fatback Band and Slave were pretty big back in the day and they produced some great music, which we at VibeRide like to share.

Track number six in this show is from Incognito's very first album 28 years ago and I included it not only because I like the bass, but also because you can hear where it all began, musically, for Bluey and co.

The Teena Marie track in this mix always brings back good memories from when I lived in Galway, Ireland. My flat-mate was a DJ at Galway Bay FM at the time and he played this track one Saturday night, even though he wasn't supposed to deviate from the setlist (of chart rubbish) he was supposed to play and knew he would incur the wrath of his boss - top man! He played some Prince tracks on a few other occasions too and briefly brought some life into a sleepy small-town radio station. Galway didn't know what had hit it! Good times.

At the end of this mix there's a nice contrast of the old and the new with The Sunburst Band and the legend himself, James Brown, back-to-back. There's 37 years between the two recordings, but as we know, great music is timeless.
